Aquatics - Youth
The world is 71% water. Kids need to be 100% prepared.
Teaching children how to be safe around water is not a luxury; it is a necessity. Our Safety Around Water and Youth Swimming Lessons can help you make sure they learn essential water safety skills, which can open up a world of possibilities for them to satisfy their curiosity safely.
HELP KEEP YOUR CHILDREN SAFE.
Drowning can happen nearly anywhere with standing water. But, as a parent or caregiver, you can’t keep your children sidelined. You need to equip them with the tools they need to be confident in and around water so they don’t lose out on the health benefits of exercise, the opportunities to bond with family and friends and the sense of accomplishment when they learn new skills. Bonus - Swimming is FUN!
Jackson Swims
Every child should have life-saving water safety skills. Our Jackson Swims program, which was paused during the pandemic, provides these skills free of charge to local 2nd-grade students. We are currently working on restarting this valuable program. Would you like to volunteer? We welcome volunteers! It's a great opportunity to make a difference in a young person's life! See our flyer for details.
Safety Around Water
Every year in May we hold a free Safety Around Water program to teach kids how to be safe in and around the water. Not only do kids learn what to do if they fall into a pool, lake or pond, but also they learn how to help a friend who has fallen in, how and why they should wear a lifejacket, boating safety, and much more. This grant-funded program is free to enable all kids and families to participate.
Our 2023 program is held May 22-25. Registration opens May 1.
Swim Lessons
Swimming is a life skill. Our swim lessons prepare kids of all ages to learn skills and have fun in the water, building strong swimmers and confident kids.
The benefits of participating in our swim lessons program are far greater than just physical health. At the Jackson YMCA, our focus is on building the whole child, from the inside out, so kids will learn about the rewards of persistence and courage, as well as mastering their swimming strokes.
Parents, please note the following when bringing your child to swim lessons:
- We encourage swimmers to come dressed in their swimsuits, with their own goggles, towels, and water bottles if needed. This equipment will not be available at the Y.
- Swimmers must take a soap shower before entering the pool.
- The Girls, Boys and Community Locker Rooms will be open for swim lesson participants.
Please take a moment to review our Welcome Letter and let us know if you have any questions.
