The mission of the Y

To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for ALL.

The guiding principles of our Y are our core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility

A brief history

Since 1896, the Jackson YMCA has stayed true to the cause of strengthening our community. We welcome everyone through our doors, and we ensure no one is turned away due to an inability to pay. We offer programs for infants through seniors. Hundreds of people visit the Y each day; in fact, in 2016 members checked in at the Y desk more than 202,000 times. No other organization brings more people to downtown Jackson on a daily basis than the YMCA!

The time is now

Our current building is 55 years old; we have expanded and renovated it over the years. The facility, however, no longer adequately meets the needs of the community. To continue to serve our community, to bring new programs to Jackson, we need a new facility. The time to act is now. Every year we wait is another year we must put money toward repairs, not our programs.

The components of the proposed Y capital campaign

$20 million to construct the new facility, complete with an aquatics center or natatorium
$4 million to be added to the existing endowment fund/long term savings plan
$700,000 to retire the existing mortgage (thereby saving The Y almost $70,000 per year in payments)
$300,000 to underwrite fundraising and related costs (a cost of 1.2% vs a national average of 8-10%)
